The project “EMPATHY Educational Movement to Promote Awareness and Thoughtfulness on Holocaust History in Youth”, is based on the identified problem – low level of knowledge and distortion about the historical events concerning the Holocaust, which can be the starting point for the disrespect of European values and human rights.
THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES ARE:
a. To train professionals in the area of formal, informal and non-formal education, to promote the knowledge of young adults about the Holocaust, based on accurate information and, simultaneously, to promote engaging learning environments about the Holocaust and the European and world current affairs;
b. To develop young adults’ knowledge of the Holocaust and enable them to draw parallels between these events and today while preparing them to become agents of awareness and education on issues such as human rights and social inclusion;
c. Promote widespread knowledge and critical reflection among communities about the Holocaust and the moral, political and social issues raised by the events of the Holocaust and their relevance in today’s societies.
This proposal intends, through education and reflection, to innovate the way in which the mentioned themes are worked with young adults Europeans, creating safe, creative and inclusive spaces, open to the participation of all, regardless of their gender and/or ethnic origin and/ or nationality and/or sexual orientation, allowing reinforce the importance of group debate and exchange of perspectives, centred on cultural diversity and multicultural discourse, in the face of themes that correlate individual and collective aspects of a period of history, which is important not to forget, but which is intended to remain in the past.
TARGET GROUP
We anticipate the target groups of people to work with us on the project continuously and during all project activities.
a. Educators/trainers/youth workers
We will involve professionals over 18 years of age who work directly with young adults in areas such as: civic education and active participation, human rights, history and culture, European values, social inclusion, etc. The intention is to train these professionals to work with young adults in an innovative, efficient and effective way.
The professionals to be involved could be, e.g. teachers, youth workers from NGOs, social educators, etc. The aim is find educators who will attend the Capacity building for educators and after this training, develop common work throughout the project.
- Participate in training for educators/trainers/youth workers to develop knowledge of the Holocaust, develop accuracy in understanding and individual knowledge in order to improve educational responses;
- The Youth Educators/Trainers/Youth workers will be responsible for implementing a set of Thematic Workshops with young adults. These workshops will be based on the good practices identified and consolidated in the manual developed in earlier stage of the project. The workshops will be focused on following topics: Holocaust, Human Rights and European Values, Discrimination, intolerance, bullying and hate speech and Distorted information and Fake News
- Conduct online event, final conference aiming to fosterdebate on the project theme, present what has been done throughout the project and the main conclusions reached, and share the results and impacts of the project.
b. The community of young people (18-30 years)
Since young people were not alive at the time, they are the part of society that has the least knowledge about the Holocaust. According to many studies, there is a tendency in this group to forget or distort the facts. Therefore, with this project we want to educate, sensitize and raise awareness among the young adult community about what the Holocaust was and what its adverse effects on society were, so that they become active citizens in the fight against events that can lead to devastating situations such as Holocaust.
- Young adults will be responsible for creating and running awareness campaigns about the project theme. In order to to reach more comprehensive number of participants, the campaign will be held through digital media and the young adults can use different forms (the young adults themselves willchoose them) – for example, videos, dramatisations, songs, protests, articles, etc.
- Participate in study visit – to Poland – one of the countries most affected by the Holocaust. During the days of activities, young adults will have the opportunity to visit different monuments and historical sites related to the Holocaust period, including the Auschwitz concentration camp.
