The overall project objective is to promote the inclusion of youth with autism, aged between 13 and 20, in basic sports, through the adoption of innovative approaches in sports contexts.
Through needs analysis, carried out with a bottom-up approach and involving relevant stakeholders, the following specific objectives necessary to achieve the general one have been defined:
1) Promote the dissemination of best practices, based on the use of Virtual Reality, to facilitate the access and participation of youth with autism in sports environments. By the end of the transnational workshop, the skills of sports operators in applying VR tools to promote the sports inclusion of these youth will increase by 70%, and a specific video course will be developed to disseminate such practices among sports personnel.
2) Stimulate the development of social skills in sports environments to promote communication and collaboration between instructors and athletes, through the application of specific facilitation techniques for sports. Through participation in virtual training, sports operators involved will acquireadvanced facilitation techniques (a 60% improvement), necessary to effectively manage heterogeneous and complex groups, improve communicative processes and mutual understanding in sports contexts, and promote the involvement of all users regardless of specific conditions or affections.
3) Promote information campaigns to raise awareness among youth, families, sports centers, and schools on the topic of autism. Leading up to the closing meeting, consortium organizations will create a promotional video aimed at raising awareness in local and European communities about autism and inclusion in sports, promoting barrier-free, inclusive, and diversity-respecting sports environments.
