The retirement home IL GIGNORO is located approximately 6km east of Santa Maria Novella, Firenze central railway station. The house is part of the Waldensian Diaconia (Diaconia Valdese). The Waldensian Church is the oldest non Catholic-Christian community that was founded and exists in Europe since before the Reformation. In Florence, the Waldensian church is a minority very active in the city.
About the activity
The activities are offered to preserve and enrich the resources and potential of the guests. During the normal working hours the volunteer provides supporting service for “animation”, “physiotherapy”, “daily centre” or according to a program of activity to be decided with the responsible service staff. During their stay, he/she/they contribute in taking care of the interior and exterior common areas and spaces where they do activities, such as gardening. The volunteer will also help in different kinds of workshops, such as painting, cooking or reading books, to improve the autonomy and well-being of the guests.
The volunteer will be actively involved in the weekly planning of the tasks, and according to their own personal interest and skills she/he/they will have the opportunities to propose their own activities.
Volunteering is a full-time activity, in which the service is for five days per week, scheduled from a minimum of 30 hours up to 38 hours per week. Each month the volunteer accumulates 2 days off as holidays.
Seminars
Diaconia Valdese, as coordinating organisation, offers 3 seminars in which the volunteer can meet with the other volunteers involved in different long term volunteering projects of Diaconia Valdese: On-Arrival Seminar: at the beginning of the project mobility (October) Mid-Term Seminar: in the middle of the project mobility (February) Final Evaluation Seminar: towards the end of the project mobility (June) Furthermore, as a volunteer within the ESC programme, 2 more
seminars are offered by the Italian National Agency, in which the volunteer will meet other volunteers involved in other organisations activities and from all over Italy.
