Course’s description

This training course provided activists with a step-by-step guide to counter extremist messages Online; plan, create content and promote a campaign. Countering narratives of violent extremism is about building, presenting and spreading information and interventions designed to prevent individuals from engaging in Online or Offline extremist narratives.

The advocacy for hatred leading to discrimination and a sophisticated use of Internet to promote hate messages; create layers of complexity.

Training Course’s objectives

1. Participants go familiar with combating hate speech and counter extremist narratives analysis, tools and techniques:
a. Participants gained knowledge on extremist narratives analysis: youth engagement; framing the problem: hate Speech and extremism in local contexts;
b. Further, they gained skills on counter-narratives: proactive solutions to counter hate speech and extremism and security: staying safe with Online activism;
c. They also learnt about story-boarding and planning: understanding online environment, local realities, language to use and their cognition.

2. Participants have developed their capacities to apply and design innovative campaigns against extremist narratives and hate speech:
a. Participants gained knowledge on extremist narratives prevention: combating hate speech and establishing a targeted audience;
b. Further, they gained skills on extremist narratives prevention: countering extremist narratives and developing targeted messaging;
c. They also learnt how to set up a targeted audience and interact with it: organise the content that is interesting enough to spark dialogue.

3. Participants got familiar with developing, executing, controlling and evaluating counter extremist narratives and no hate speech campaigns:
a. Participants gained knowledge on how to elaborate a counter-narratives message: creating the content of counter-narratives campaign;
b. Further, they gained skills on Facebook page’s metrics: Awareness: number of people reached. And Engagement: people interacted with the campaign;
c. They also gained skills on the importance of effectively promoting a counter-narratives campaign and further, learnt how to pitch a created campaign.

Participants were from Romania Romania, Norway Norway, Poland Poland, Moldova Moldova Republic of, Egypt Egypt, Palestine Palestine, State of, Tunisia Tunisia, Bulgaria Bulgaria, Ukraine Ukraine and Slovakia Slovakia.
